Nitro RC Cars
Remote control cars have an amazing worldwide popularity. I now live in the Philippines, yet I was fascinated one evening to hear what I thought was a remote control plane outside. I opened the door to find my neighbour, a young man in his 20's, proudly playing with his new RC car, on the forecourt of our apartment block. Soon there were other young men (and women) coming out to watch; the interest was immediate. To many men here, that RC car cost the equivalent of two month's wages; but it would have attracted the same attention even back in the UK.
RC cars are easy for most people to relate to, so can make an excellent gift. But there are also some serious RC car enthusiasts, as well as some who like to build and repair their own. So, I am including some helpful articles which I hope such visitors find useful and interesting

Looking After Your Nitro RC Car
Nitro RC cars are a popular passion . However, they require regular maintenance. A small touch up here and there, plus a little handling, should increase the life of your Nitro pride and joy. And you never know, it could bring you the rewards you dream of at some of those RC car racing events.
For cleaning a Nitro car, the most appropriate method is to use a Denatured Alcohol, in a plastic spray bottle. Nitro cleaners which might be available at your local hardware stores, can also be used. It is always helpful to have some kind of compressed air source at hand for air drying the car, and also to blow your car clean.
The Nitro car air filter also needs regular cleaning. Usually you can tell when it needs cleaning, but every five tanks is what is needed for regular maintenance. You can wash it with soapy water or with a nitro fuel, and then reapply the air filter oil.

However, it may not be such a good idea to clean the air filter element. Why is this? This is because there is a fair chance that dirt can get washed into the foam element, from where it may get sucked into the engine. And meddling with the engine is definitely not advisable, is it? Although it may be alright to wash an outer foam element, where you have a two stage air filter, but never the inner foam element. The best way really is never to wash the foam elements at all. If necessary, it is always advisable to replace them.
Always check if the Nitro car engine is too hot. If there is a stream of smoke coming out of the exhaust, then it could be that your engine is fuming. You should consider buying a temperature gun, to ensure that the engine runs between 220F – 260F. It is always better to run on the rich side, unless you want to regularly replace engines!
It is a good idea to glue the tyres to the rims. This seems like the easiest and the cheapest idea to get the maximum performance out of your tyres. The glue can be bought easily from any of your local hardware stores. You may think it seems expensive, buying a new pair of rims for every new pair of tyres, but in the long run you should find that it is worth it.
There may be several ways of stopping the engine as well. You can pinch a fuel line, plug the exhaust, or stop the fly wheel with the shoe. Stopping the fly wheel with the thumb is the best way out though. It does not drain or flood the engine. But you have to make sure you leave the piston at the bottom of the stroke.
Also, checking the speed of the Nitro car radar is good option. If you are looking for a cheaper option, then a stop watch may be the solution. Whether your Nitro RC car is a RTR or a kit, to prevent the lost screws and broken parts, remove any screws that go into the metal and apply thread lock. Some companies do it in the factory but some don’t. The only way to make sure that it is done is to do it yourself. This stops the screws from being vibrated out.
Lastly, if your car had a crash and there seems to be no obvious damage, nonetheless, it would be good idea to give a complete rain check on it. Check out wheel alignments, bent metal parts, loosened screws; these should be checked as normal routine. Give a few test runs and look for any obvious abnormalities that were not visible before the crash.
