BUYING A NITRO RC CAR
There's no denying it, nitro rc cars look great. Most nitro rc car owners are proud of their vehicles, on road or off road. But let's face it, they are pricey. So it's good to be careful how you spend you money. After all, you don't want to waste too much on a simple model. Here are a few tips you should keep in mind.
For a nitro rc car beginner, stadium or monster trucks really can be great fun. bear in mind that monster trucks are not as fast as stadium trucks. Nitro Stadium rc trucks do 50-60 mph, can take huge jumps, and also tear up some asphalt. Buggies are very much like stadium trucks. The HPI MT2 18SS seems to be a pretty good truck. If you've never had a high powered nitro or electric car before, you might want to start with a 4wd car. There's no doubt they are much easier to control.
HPI kits are easy to use and readily available. They are also quite popular. Another plus point for HPI kits is help for them is also easy to get hold of. With an RTR kit, you can get a good quality radio and the car for a sensible price. It is probably advisable to find a nitro rc car from a manufacturer who has good following. It is more likely you will find parts, hop ups, technical advice, etc more easily
When you buy rc nitro car kits, might some other things that need to be bought along with the kit or separately. Most of the time, the kits come with a car and a motor only. Some more advanced models come without motor at all. The RTR kits usually come with a radio and actually do not require much building up. They are already something like 97% completely built. One needs to buy a nitro fuel though, one that is especially for the Remote Control cars. Keep a check not to end up buying a Nitro Fuel for a remote control planes by mistake!
A glow plug igniter is also required. They come in various shapes,sizes and kinds, but are more or less all are same. However, some come with a meter to show how much fuel is left. A fuel bottle is also desirable. They are not an absolute necessity, but do make pouring fuel into the tank much easier than out of a one gallon can. Investing in a good air filter is always a wise decision.
The above make up all the necessary things while buying a nitro rc car. But there are a few extras you may find handy at all times while your are using the car. These would include things likes screw drivers, a cleaning sock, needle nose pliers, some spare screws, glues etc. Keep all these things tidy in a storage box. You could borrow granny's sowing box if you don't want to buy one!
If you have had some experience with RC cars earlier, then build-it-up kits are also worth a try. Build-it-yourself and unassembled kits generally have higher quality components. You may be able to use some parts from earlier models you have had. This is more advisable for people who have already had some equipment and move from one model to another. So the cost drops after the initial investment. This also helps you to get to know your kit inside out, which can't be a bad thing.
